Young Child

4 1/2 years to 8 years

YOUNG CHILD is a sequential learning experience that acquaints children with many music concepts.  Moving, listening, singing, playing, note reading and writing, and instrument play effectively prepare for a life-long love of music and music making.  Focus is on process, not performance with a pressure-free approach to learning.  Throughout the curriculum there is a consistent effort to balance active learning with emotional reasoning aspects of a young child's development.  Grown-ups join the last 15 minutes of class.

SEMESTER TWO (5-7 Years) Semester 1 of Young Child is recommended but not required.  Students play Music Baseball, meet the String & Woodwind instruments, experience the music of Beethoven, as well as Prokofiev's "Peter and the Wolf!"

SEMESTER FOUR  (5 ½-8 Years) At least one year of Young Child is highly recommended.  This final semester of Young Child includes a multi-cultural journey, including music of Japan, Hawaii, & Africa, as well as Bach, keyboard instruments, &  playing Recorder.
